Apply to S2S

Students are selected to participate in Students to Scholars based on their academic curiosity; strong family support; desire for a more challenging school environment; and income (family income must fit within the guidelines of the NC Opportunity Scholarship so that we are supporting the most needy children). Their grades, behavior, work ethic, and family support are all taken into consideration as well as family income.

Step 1: Complete the Application

The first step is to complete the S2S application. You can find the application here. We’ll review the application and interview the student and the parents/guardians.

Step 2: Meet with Students to Scholars

Students will be asked to complete some academic testing so that we can see where the student is academically and if s/he would benefit from tutoring. After testing, students are informed if they have been selected to apply for the program. We will briefly review the six associate schools and to help arrange tours of the schools of interest to you.

Step 3: Tour the Schools

After the families have completed their tours and have made a decision about the school(s) to which they wish to apply, Students to Scholars assists them in applying directly to the associate schools. Please note that each school makes their own admissions and financial aid decisions using their standard selection process.

Step 4: Acceptance

If the student is accepted at an associate school, the family then enters the Students to Scholars community and participates in monthly Success and Support meetings, academic coaching, and Parent Advisory Council meetings. In addition, the student has the opportunity to participate in a five week half-day summer program at Hill Learning in reading, math, and study skills to help them prepare for their new middle school, or summer experiences at the Duke Pre-College program or the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematic’s Summer Accelerator.
